The project is situated on Beifeng Mountain in Fuzhou, within the "Lacquer Garden," meticulously constructed brick by brick by the renowned lacquer artist Mingxiu Tang. This renovation project for Lacquer Garden aims to reorganize and reinforce the existing structures, effectively utilizing the current space, and expanding upon the original foundation. The objective is to preserve the essence of Lacquer Garden while eliminating unnecessary elements, transforming the artist's studio into a Lacquer Garden Art Museum centered around the artistic works of Mingxiu Tang.
The Lacquer Garden Museum is composed of three parts: the old brick wall, concrete, and corten steel sections. These three elements create a rich visual and textural experience, emphasizing the relationship between the new and the old, while simultaneously echoing each other in form. The exhibition space of the Lacquer Garden is connected by several independent exhibition halls, with the Lacquer Bowl at the center. Even if the area of a single exhibition hall is not spacious, the entire visit experience becomes an "exploratory journey" between the new and old spaces through full utilization and mutual connection.
