The Lantian Taoyuan Complex Project is located in Xitou Town, Shexian County, Huangshan City, and consists of several individual building projects. As a model for new rural development, it integrates the three main industries with the goal of creating a unique rural tourism showcase area, a distinctive agricultural demonstration base, a health and wellness resort, a Huizhou cultural study center, and a national 4A-level tourist attraction. These objectives are pursued while preserving the village’s original residents and avoiding large-scale demolition, aiming to boost the overall development of surrounding villages in Xitou Town. The "Tea and Chrysanthemum Factory" is a sub-project within this complex.

The project is located on a sloped landform. In order to protect the natural terrain, we took advantage of the height difference to create the visual effect of undulating mountain ranges. We deconstructed the original large-scale factory block into small volumes, and wove them into the local fabric.

The project consists of a chrysanthemum processing factory, a tea processing factory and a shared courtyard space in the middle. There are entrances and exits for employees and visitors on both sides of the courtyard. The shared space in the middle allows people to watch the  process of producingtea, and participate in activities such as tea tasting.

The form of the tea factory is an reinterpretation of the traditional sloping roof. The overlapping cross-sections combines with the natural height differences to generate a sense of terraced mountains. We incorporated both local materials and industrial building materials: the metal corrugated white walls echo with the metal roofs, forming an visually distinct industrial building.

The dynamic fenestration is inspired by traditional windows of Hui-style architecture. We advocate green and energy-saving design: the wooden windows at the lower part of the building can be pushed open to allow air to enter, while the windows on the ceiling allows air to flow out, forming a passive ventilation mechanism.
